In which Isshin’s perving escapes Orihime’s notice.

inoue-orihime:

death-and-strawberry:

“Uh huh. The whole landing on your face thing sounds about right. Only a dumbass would—OWW!!” His insult was cut short by his father’s kick. As soon as he tried to strike, the man had leaned in and whispered to him about their chat they had. Ichigo hadn’t forgotten about the weird talk his dad forced him into, but he was hopping he did. Then again, his father seemed to have perfected the art of getting on his nerves.

As per usual, Ichigo retaliated with force, sweeping the older man’s legs from under him, causing him to fall face first into the snow. Without even a second glance, he stepped over his dad’s body towards Orihime. He made a mental note to deliver a more painful blow later on. With a short huff, he motioned behind him.

“Sorry about all that. My old man’s pretty damn annoying.” Ichigo stepped next to the red head before continuing on, not even remembering his father’s suggestion. “Want me to walk you back? It’s gonna get pretty dark soon.”

There she’d been, walking Isshin up to his front door when Ichigo had emerged from the house. Of course, the redhead had a difficult time trying to hide her blush, as her hands were both a bit preoccupied with holding up the eldest Kurosaki. At that point, Orihime simply decided that she’d blame her rosy cheeks on the cold weather, if he’d asked. After all, the tip of her nose and ears had already begun to turn pink in color, a product of her time being exposed to the elements, she supposed.

All at once, a series of strange (though even more oddly enough, unsurprising) events played out before her like clockwork. Banter was exchanged, as well as a few attacks here and there— and despite the violence, and the way her brow creased with worry as the father and son exchanged blows, the redhead couldn’t help but chuckle quietly at the scene. Suddenly, Ichigo was standing at her side, and she glanced up at her friend with wide, almond eyes. Despite her wish to hide her sudden embarrassment, the redhead really couldn’t stop herself from blushing further —Another action of hers that she’d blame on the cold weather, if asked about it. She glanced from Ichigo to Isshin, nodding once in acknowledgement as he offered his word of thanks and goodbye.

“Aah— it was nothing really! My pleasure!” she said with a genuine smile, hoping that Ichigo’s father wouldn’t read too much into her pink cheeks for her own sake, but not really blaming him if he did. “You take care now, please! And make sure to put some ice on that an— oh, why am I telling you? You’re the doctor, after all!”

“W-Well I— wouldn’t want to cause you any trouble or anything…” The redhead then turned back to Ichigo, acknowledging his offer with a shy nod. “But i-if you didn’t mind… I would very much appreciate it!”

Isshin started to walk back, happy with what had transpired. “Yes, yes, Orihime-chan, I’ll be fine. No need to worry, now. I’m feeling better already!” And in truth he was, although he didn’t know if that was his reiatsu at work or the fact that his mind was clearing at being away from Orihime.

He started back and clapped his son on the shoulder on the way. “I’m proud of you, my boy,” he muttered just loud enough he could hear on his way back. You two have fun now, and I’ll make sure Yuzu has something for you to eat when you get back, Ichigo. With that, he flashed them one of his goofy smiles and limped on home, completely forgetting he left the car at the school.

inoue-orihime:

She nodded in acknowledgement of his offer. “Ah, thank you! That’s so kind of you! —But I wouldn’t want to burden you at all, especially not after how much you’ve lent a hand in the past, you know?”

Orihime wasn’t exactly sure if he’d remember the correlation. In fact, Ichigo himself hadn’t made the connection until much later— but the Kurosaki Clnic and Isshin’s medical care had already lent her as much of a hand as they could around five years ago when they took in one Inoue Sora as a patient. In all reality, she’d never blamed Isshin’s medical care for the reason her brother had passed away; his wounds had been far too severe and it had been too late to get him the proper treatment he’d required to begin with. The redhead knew quite well that the Kurosaki Clinic had accommodated her late brother to the best of their abilities, and she would always be grateful for that.

She was suddenly roused from her reverie when Isshin stumbled over his foot, catching himself on the side of the building. Her serene expression changed to worry at once, and the redhead nodded obediently at his request.

“Sure, sure— not a problem.” she said, immediately joining him at his side once more to help steady him.

Ichigo stepped out the front door of his home and stretched. He had been inside for what felt like an eternity toiling away at some classwork that had accumulated over the past few days. Even though he had regained his powers, he didn’t want to fall too far behind in his studies like he did a year ago.

Looking down the street he could see Orihime and…his father? Like usual, irritation welled up in Ichigo when he saw his eccentric dad. For some reason, he was draped over his friend, looking incredibly pitiful and stupid. Not wanting Orihime to endure being pestered by the man, Ichigo swiftly made his way over to the two slowly walking towards the clinic.

“Hey Inoue,” he said, giving a small wave before glaring at his father. “What kind of dumbass thing are you doing now, old man? You already bother the hell out of your family. Ya don’t have to start messing with my friends too.” He grabbed him by the hair, scowling at him up close.

Isshin cursed under his breath. His son would be home today of all days.

What the hell are you doing home? Don’t you have school? Oh..wait..Orihime was home..so I guess it makes sense that you were home too..ah, whatever. Orihime was about to get squashed by the pile of books she was carrying, so I helped her out. But when I went to leave..I fell down the stairs and landed on my face. And she was very insistent on helping.

He yanked his head back before aiming a swift kick at Ichigo’s ass. In the heat of the moment, the woozieness disappeared, although he found himself wondering afterwards if Orihime was impressed.

Anyways, thanks again, Orihime-chan. I can manage from here.

He turned to Ichigo before she left. I invited Orihime to come over for dinner sometime, I know the girls would love it. Hope you don’t mind.

Then he leaned in and whispered. Remember our talk the other day, boy? This is your chance! Ask her if she wants you to walk her home or something!

In which Isshin’s perving escapes Orihime’s notice.

inoue-orihime:

doctorkurosaki:

“No, no, Orihime, you misunderstand.. I was just saying a majority of the youth today are not as kind as you.” He had had a mental slip and called her pretty, but luckily she was too absorbed in something to have noticed. She was stammering though..and seemed kind of nervous..oh shit. Had he given something away? Isshin started to sweat a little at the thought.

Isshin watched as out of nowhere Orihime started giggling. That was it. She noticed something. She was laughing at the absurdity of the notion that a man as old as Isshin could have a crush on a teenage girl.“Orihime-chan..you’re laughing..I- I..it’s not what you think! I- I just don’t really know..and now you’re helping me..” Isshin’s stammering kept descending in volume until it was just incoherent babbling. He was making a fool of himself, and this caused him to blush even more.

Isshin finally gathered his mind enough to tell Orihime “Well, thanks anyway, I’m beginning to think I might not have made it home without your help!”

“Oh, sure they are! They just have a lot on their minds, I suppose.” she would have waved a hand, dismissing the thought— but her they were both currently a bit preoccupied. “And I wouldn’t call it ‘kindness’ or anything like that— it makes it sound as if it’s something rare, you know? I just think of it as the natural thing to do; helping someone out when they need it.”

The smile on her face was serene as she spoke, her eyes not really focusing on anything besides moving forward. Realizing this, Orihime took the time to glance around a bit more, taking note of her surroundings and realizing that they were only about a block away from the Kurosaki Clinic.

“Isn’t that why you’re a doctor, Kurosaki-san? —Or at least, part of the reason?”

She looked up at Isshin and smiled, only to have the expression wiped clean off her face and replaced with worry. Her brow furrowed as she took note of his somewhat labored breathing, flushed complexion, and now-sweat skin. Was his fever really causing him that much strain? Orihime couldn’t help but feel partially responsible for it— though it didn’t really make sense as to why she felt that way, considering that falling down a flight of stairs didn’t exactly correlate with catching a cold.

The cold— ah, maybe that was it! The extra time he’d taken to walk her home left him more exposed to the drop in temperature for the winter season— and it was so much easier to get sick when it was colder out.

“Ah— don’t worry about a thing, Kurosaki-san.” she said, snapping back to reality. “It’s my pleasure, really!”

Isshin was extremely distracted at this point. It took every ounce of his will to not invite her in for a cup of coffee or something. But that would be weird enough with the kids home, let alone being home alone.

He barely heard her talking about kindness. Yes, yes, I suppose you’re right, mhmm..

He noticed they were almost home, and Orihime took him by surprise with the doctor question. Uh, yeah! I mean, obviously, having a clinic has its advantages, and I am smart enough to do it after all, and I do like to help people when I can..so, yeah, that is pretty much the reason.

Isshin flashed her a smile and tried to limp less. Orihime sure did feel nice and warm up against his skin, though. That, and the way she practically bounced when she walked..and the way her firey hair gleamed in the sun..it was all making him a little woozy. If it were anyone else, he would have asked them to walk him in so he wouldn’t collapse. But, he couldn’t.

Isshin noticed they were almost there. It really does mean a lot that you were so willing to help, Orihime-chan, regardless of who else would have offered. If there’s anything I can ever do for you, I and my clinic are at your disposal. And of course dinner will be waiting whenever you’re hungry! Isshin laughed a hearty laugh and faltered, catching himself on the side of the building. Er, I’m sorry to ask for even more, but do you think you could walk me to my door? I can deal with walking inside, I just don’t want to collapse in the snow.

inoue-orihime:

doctorkurosaki:

“Of course, any time!”

Isshin gasped with surprise as she wrapped her arm around him. He couldn’t help but think of the dream..and Orihime..unclothed..no NO NO ISSHIN BAD. He shook his head. Why in the name of the King was he thinking of that? Good god. He blushed a deep red, quickly covering his face with his hand.

“No, no, Orihime-chan, not at all! I mean, if you’re busy, I could easily make it alone, but if you could spare 15 minutes I would be eternally grateful.” He smiled at her again. She was very kind. He was going to have a talk with Ichigo later.

He started to walk back towards his house, leaning on Orihime for support. He had completely forgotten he was supposed to pick Yuzu and Karin up in light of this. The bad thoughts were coming back. He almost asked Orihime if she would keep him company until the others got home. “Orihime-chan..maybe would you like..er, I just mean to thank you. It’s not often pretty young girls want to help this old man.” And he laughed, walking home with a smile on his face and red on his cheeks.

“That’s too bad,” she replied, “I don’t think it’s a matter of aesthetics at all, Kurosaki-san— so you shouldn’t blame people’s unwillingness to help a person in need on that. I think it’s just because people are really aah— absorbed in their own lives, if that makes sense. —N-Not that everyone but me is a conceited person who only cares about themselves, though!” she corrected herself, panicking a bit. “It’s just that— well, we all have our own things to focus on— and our own circumstances, so it’s not like we can do everything, you know? It’s understandable that way.”

Hmm— he was kind of… heavy, especially when he leaned on her like he did. But she’d offered to help, so she couldn’t at all blame him for taking advantage of her lending him a hand. It wasn’t that she minded much, either. And in that, Orihime found herself far too absorbed in her own thoughts on the matter to even realize Isshin’s behavior and how he was acting. To be quite honest, his awkward reactions and gestures had nearly completely escaped her notice. Though she had caught him blushing at one point, and assumed it to be him getting a bit of a fever. She chuckled at that idea— a doctor like Kurosaki-san sure had terrible luck today. First, falling down a flight of stairs, now catching a cold. His misfortune was nothing short of ironic, though Orihime instantly felt terrible for laughing at him.

“Aah— don’t mention it, Kurosaki-san!” she said with a smile. “It’s the least I could do after you helped me!”

No, no, Orihime, you misunderstand..I was just saying a majority of the youth today are not as kind as you. Isshin dove at her trying to yank the book out of her hands before she opened it, failing to reach her in time and falling on his face.

I would have face palmed myself, but I can’t. [points to the horn on her forehead]

Isshin laughed.

I like you. You have a sense of humor, unlike a majority of the people around here.
